Winter Concerts - December 2017

Handfuls of Harmony raised the roof at their Winter Concerts in St Paul’s Church this December. Children from 9 local primary schools came together with parents, school staff and others to sing a marvellous mix of songs which delighted a packed hall.

‘Twas definitely the season to be jolly as the children belted out a hit pop song by James Bay, tackled a challenging rhythmic mash up of Prodigy’s “Outer Space”, and sang the traditional tune “Donkey Riding” and Blah Blahs “Happy Christmas To You” with gusto and style.

Handfuls of Harmony Core Choir opened both shows with some powerful 4 part harmony songs including the gospel classic Down In The River To Pray and Bill Withers’ Aint No Sunshine When She’s Gone. They also invited the children and audience to join them in a Wassail Song which got (most of!) the room singing.

The highlight of the evening came at the end when children, parents, teachers and friends all came together to sing a rousing Hannukah song followed by a gorgeous version of Somewhere Over The Rainbow which brought a happy tear to more than one eye.

Hearing everyone singing together, and seeing the look of concentration and enjoyment on everyone’s faces, was a joy to behold and I felt very privileged to be conducting this warm and wonderful choir.

Handfuls of Harmony is helping lots of people discover the exhilaration and satisfaction of singing together and we especially love the inter-generational aspect of our choir. Many parents have commented on how great it is to be able to sing with their children, and how they enjoy practising the songs together at home or in the car.

So keep an eye on the website if you’d like to sing with us in 2017. There are more opportunities in the pipeline…
